Parking in the center of Prague: zones, payment and parking P+R

Parking in the center of Prague requires attention to road signs, parking times and payment methods. For a short stop, you can choose a permitted place on the street, for a long walk you can choose a public garage or a P+R parking lot with a transfer to public transport.
If you are planning to rent a car in Prague, think in advance where you will leave your car near the hotel and while visiting the sights. Below we tell you how to navigate in parking zones and choose a suitable parking lot.
Parking zones in Prague: what do the colors mean
In Prague, there are blue, purple and orange parking zones. Each has its own conditions, but before stopping, you need to check the sign of a particular section: hours of operation of the regime, maximum parking time and additional restrictions.
Blue Zone
The blue zone is primarily intended for cars with a valid parking permit of the respective area. However, tourists and other visitors can also use the paid short-term parking.
According to the city portal, parking is provided for visitors for one hour in the center and up to three hours outside it. Payment is made online: there are no parking meters directly in the blue zones. Check the exact conditions on the spot and in the payment system. Official rules of the blue zone.
Purple Zone – Mixed Parking
Purple zones are intended for both holders of the relevant permits and visitors. Paid parking is provided for visitors for up to 24 hours. You can pay for it through a parking meter or online.
The cost depends on the location of the parking lot. Check the hours of the paid mode: if they are not indicated on the sign, according to the city portal, the paid mode is valid around the clock. Official rules of the purple zone.
Orange zone – for short visits
Orange zones are designed for visitors, including near institutions and hospitals. The maximum duration of parking is indicated on the road sign. A long-term parking permit here does not replace payment.
You can pay for parking through a parking meter or online. When extending, take into account the established time limit. Official rules of the orange zone.

How to pay for parking in Prague
Start paying by checking the parking place. Compare the area selected in the application with the street marking, especially if the car is near the border of two plots.
Before confirming payment:
- Check the registration number of the car.
- Make sure that the correct parking zone and duration are selected.
- See the total cost and end time.
- After payment, save the confirmation.
To pay online, use the services listed on the official parking payment page. If you use a parking meter, follow its instructions.
Set a reminder about the end of the paid time. If your plans have changed, check the possibility of an extension taking into account the maximum parking period in the selected zone.
Is parking free in the evening and on weekends?
There is no single rule for the whole of Prague. In blue, purple and orange zones outside the designated parking hours, parking can be free. But the schedule differs by districts and streets – you cannot automatically consider any evening or Sunday free.
Other signs and restrictions, such as a temporary ban on parking, remain important. Check the conditions directly on the selected site. Information about the parking zone regime.

P+R parking lots in Prague: how it works
P+R stands for Park & Ride: you leave your car in the park-and-ride and continue your trip on public transport. This option is worth considering if you are going to spend a few hours in the center.
On the city portal for paid P+R, rates of 50 or 100 CZK for the first 24 hours are indicated, depending on the site. There are also separate free parking lots with a time limit. Places are not booked in advance; for some parking lots, the current occupancy rate is displayed. Official P+R list.
Examples of tariffs as of the date of verification:
| Parking | First 24 hours |
|---|---|
| P+R Garáže Černý Most | 50 Kč |
| P+R Zličín 1 and Zličín 2 | 50 Kč |
| P+R Chodov | 50 Kč |
| P+R Letňany | 50 Kč |
| P+R Nové Butovice | 50 Kč |
| P+R Holešovice | 100 Kč |
| P+R Ládví | 100 Kč |
| P+R Skalka 1 | 100 Kč |
Before leaving, check the card of the selected parking: rates and conditions may change. List of venues and prices.
Can I leave my car at P+R overnight or for several days?
The conditions should be looked at for a specific site. You should not expect that the tariff of the first day is repeated every next day.
For example, for P+R Zličín 1 , the cost is 50 CZK for the first 24 hours and 10 CZK for each subsequent hour; the duration of parking is not limited. Therefore, a long stay is calculated differently than the first day. P+R Zličín 1 conditions.
If you plan to leave the car for several days, compare the total cost of P+R, hotel parking and other parking lots in advance. Also check the possibility of entering and exiting at the right time.
How to choose between central parking and P+R
For a short meeting, it is convenient to first check the allowed places near the destination address. For a long walk, consider P+R and the public transport route from it.
If you’re traveling with young children, lots of luggage, or passengers who have trouble walking, compare this option to a garage closer to your destination. When choosing a garage, check the car’s allowable height and access hours.
Save the main and backup options in the navigator. This will allow you to change the plan if the selected parking lot is occupied.
Rental car parking
When driving a rented car, be especially careful when entering the registration number: the application may contain the details of your personal car or previous rental.
Before check-in, check with the hotel about the availability of parking, the need for reservation and the exact address of entry. Do not leave documents and valuables in plain sight, and after parking, save the location of the car.
Before booking, read the terms and conditions of BEST Rent Car rental. If you receive a violation notification, keep the document and proof of payment for parking. For questions related to our car, you can contact BEST Rent Car.
